Born from the Ōtautahi underground, Kōwhai Grove is an annual gathering for the people who keep DIY music alive in this country. It’s a celebration of every strain of sound that moves through our scene: house, techno, dub, jungle, dubstep, and everything in between.

Each January we bring together artists from across Waitaha, Aotearoa and further abroad for two nights in the bush at Gunns Bush, Waimate. No big sponsors, no corporate stages. Just a community that drives south every summer because the music, the people and the place are worth it.

Nestled among the kōwhai trees, 103 Soundsystem anchors one unified stage. Over two nights we take you on a curated musical journey through one of the finest sound systems in the country, wrapped in immersive lighting and video installations. Kōwhai Grove carries the torch of the DIY gatherings that have been part of the cultural fabric of Te Wai Pounamu for decades, and we’re proud to keep that flame burning.

Every ticket is a direct vote for independent underground music in Aotearoa.
